Western Digital Caviar Black 640Gb Benchmark

Yesterday I got Western Digital Caviar Black 640Gb (WDC WD6401AALS-00L3B) and decided to run couple benches to see how it performs. I'm going to use this one like my system hard drive. I think I will be decent replacemnt for surrent hard drive. My main system hard drive is definitely slower. See my WD500Gb Bench here.

Key Features:

  • Dual processor - Twice the processing power to maximize performance. (Not sure what does it mean, we need  bit nore information how exactly it helps to improve performance.)
  • 32 MB cache - Bigger, faster cache means faster performance.
  • StableTrac™ - The motor shaft is secured at both ends
to reduce system-induced vibration and stabilize platters for accurate
tracking, during read and write operations.
  • NoTouch™ ramp load technology - The recording head
never touches the disk media ensuring significantly less wear to the
recording head and media as well as better drive protection in transit.

Test system:

  • Athlon X2 3800+ S939
  • MSI NEO4F Nforce 4 motherboard.
  • 2GB RAM

So here we are, first

Conclusion:

Drive is quite fast, but not overrally impressive like I expected. But anyways I going to install Windows tehre and I'm sure I will see improvement.
